Often referred to colloquially as a cash register, the device was only developed in the second half of the 19th century. James Ritty, the landlord and owner of a saloon, was so annoyed by the constant shoplifting of his employees that he developed the world's first fully mechanical checkout in 1879. The wooden model, consisting of over 400 individual parts, is a small work of art, which was designed in the style of retrofuturism and steampunk. The surfaces, which often appear openwork, reveal every mechanism and, as artful display objects, are the highlight of every showcase. EitherCoins as well asBanknotes are accepted by the cash register through special openings and can therefore represent an attractive coffee cash register in everyday office life. The UGEARS model cash register is rather a small work of art in that each banknote disappears properly into a cash register using lever technology.et.
